The Comtest Wireless team were on hand in Budapest to meet delegates at Innorail 2015 last week. The event’s dedicated stream for telecommunication & signalling provided an opportunity for rail and signalling operators to learn more about the latest developments and to meet with experts in these sectors.
Visitors to the Comtest Wireless stand at Innorail were welcomed by Carlo Ughetti and Franco De Fazio. They shared details of how the Comtest Wireless solutions enable operators to test and measure the performance of GSM-R communications and ERTMS signalling networks – including how to detect and manage interference issues.
Interference in the GSM-R network causes ETCS disturbances and failures, such as random emergency braking because of the lost communications.
The introduction of 4G/LTE mobile communication can cause interference because the new frequency bands are close to the GSM-R bands. As well as the close proximity issues, any alterations to signal strength by the mobile operators can cause also interference (which also includes changes to 2G and 3G, as well as 4G).
Comtest Wireless NetProbe Interference Monitoring is a full hardware and software solution to test and measure quality of service, and indentify interference issues on GSM-R networks.
RF coverage along the GSM-R network is measured using high quality receivers and scanners, which support technologies from multiple suppliers. GSM-R operators can then use the state of the art NetProbe software to measure and analyse the data collected from the hardware devices.
